Doorstep interview with European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra on progress in tax related areas

In a doorstep interview on the 11th of march European Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth, Wopke Hoekstra, expressed that despite the current state of the world, there are bright news in the realm of tax.

In the interview the commissioner highlights a number of areas that have seen progress. Among these the DAC9 and ViDA, with the progress made on the latter described as a “giant leap forward”. The progress concerns ensuring that electronics arrive in the domain of VAT collection, which the commissioner also emphasises has major financial significance. The tax cap in the European Union in terms of VAT is estimated at 90 billion per year, which according to the commissioner will see a decrease of 15-20 billion per year.
