New eLearning course “UUM&DS system: Your passport to EU applications”

Customs administrations across the Member States are busier than ever. There are more than 1 000 customs offices of entry along the entire EU external border. They handle over 2 billion tonnes of goods a year – that’s more than 8 declarations per second.

To facilitate this growth, the European Commission is developing initiatives aimed at seamlessly handling the complex differences among the customs systems of EU Member States.

One of these initiatives is the new EU-wide Uniform User Management and Digital Signature system (UUM&DS): Your passport to EU applications.

By streamlining harmonisation of customs procedures and regulations and enhancing information access and transfer, the UUM&DS offers to Economic Operators an unified access to a number of supporting IT systems such as UCC Customs Decisions, the Economic Operator System (EOS) - Authorised Economic Operators (AEO), COPIS and the UCC system for Binding Tariff Information (BTI) usage and decision, including central services for electronic submission of declarations, and tracking of applications and requests for BTI decisions. The system also enables users to manage attachments and receive email notifications regarding the status of requests.

Ensuring a steep learning curve

To help Economic Operators and their Customs representatives get up to speed quickly and start taking full advantage of the UUM&DS, the European Commission Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs (TAXUD) is rolling out a new eLearning module.

Based on the Union Customs Code (UCC), the module presents real examples of the system interface and provides users with hands-on activities to try out what they learn.

Downloading the module is easy. Also, following the course is conveniently designed to progress at a personalised pace, allowing users to pause and resume at any time. The course only takes about half an hour.

After completion, users will be able to confidently work with the UUM&DS and carry out delegation, certificate registration and authentication processes  within the UUM&DS process flow.
