Short description
The training covers main types of trucks and trailers. The exercises include a theoretical and practical part, working with tools and equipment, safety measures, and are organized in a real environment. Customs officers participating in the training will be introduced to the safe and proper use of tools and the various specificities arising from the different constructions of trucks and trailers. The training provides advanced knowledge for customs control of freight vehicles. The training focuses in particular on the procedure for controlling trucks at border crossings, checklists for inspecting trucks, safety measures, customs documents and modalities and modes of smuggling, the structure of large trucks, and safe methods for performing physical controls. The training also includes other aspects of vehicle technology.

Description
Background
Improved customs control capabilities and customs efficiency standards can strengthen security within the Union. Also, filtering goods that are harmful to citizens, society, nature, or in general means more security and protection in Europe and, in a global context.
The training covers the main types of trucks. The exercises are organized in a real environment and under the control of the instructors. Customs officers in the training will be familiarized with the safe and correct use of tools and the different specificities arising from the different constructions and powers of the vehicles.
The training focuses in particular on the procedure for controlling trucks at border crossings, customs documents, the structure of large trucks, and safe methods for performing physical controls. The training also includes other aspects of vehicle technology.
Objectives
The aim of the training is to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and results of controls (operational procedures and working methods) at the external land borders of the EU, as well as at ports and mobile controls. This training also, raises customs standards and improves common working practices.
Expected outcome
• Harmonisation of working methods and techniques for searching trucks at the EU level.
• Improved skills, exchange of experience, more harmonized working practices, and knowledge of customs control of trucks.
• Knowledge of the use of tools and technology used in truck search.
Methodologies
• Theory (classroom):
o Presentations - The training focuses in particular on the procedure for checking trucks at border crossings, customs documents, the structure of large trucks, and safe methods for performing physical checks. The training also includes other aspects of vehicle technology, truck customs control procedure, truck inspection methods, risk analysis, smuggling, training techniques, security, concealment methods, alternative fuels.

Working language: English - no translation
Participant preparation
The course consists of a theoretical part and a practical part.
The truck inspection course offered on the EU LMS provides a good introduction to this training and participants should study it before participating in this training.
The trainers will provide selected participants with specific learning materials before each course. Participants will have to study the material and answer the questions.

The training is intended for customs officers performing customs control of trucks:
• Customs officers with knowledge and practical experience in customs control of trucks
• Customs officers working in the field of truck inspection (i.e. in mobile groups, ports, border crossings)
Participants will be selected based on their profiles stated in the application. Practical day-to-day experience in searching trucks is essential to participate in this training.
REMARK: official uniform, official shoes, gloves, fluorescent reflective safety jackets are mandatory during training for safety and protection measures at work.
