Tax and customs professionals not only need to develop a comprehensive understanding of their business but also of the wider business models shaping the economy, as the models directly influence their own activities. Emerging business models like e-commerce or the collaborative economy rely primarily on digitalisation and collaborative online platforms and have by that significantly changed the way global trade functions. Amongst others, this increases today the work complexity in accessing, obtaining, analysing and recording information for and by customs and tax professionals or opens the door for cyberattacks and other cyberthreats. New skills and competencies are required for customs and tax professionals to best face the challenges created by this emerging business models.
