Description
The objective of this CLEP event is to improve the vocational skills of customs officers
working as dog handlers and detection dogs specialising in cash detection, and to exchange
the practical experience in the field of use and training of detection dogs to search for cash.
Mutual cooperation of dog handlers and their detection dogs from different Participating
Countries and comparison of training methods directly in the training process will
contribute to the preparation and training of detection dogs, with the aim to protect
financial interests of the EU and the Member States. The workshop will aim at increasing
the effectiveness and efficiency of cash controls and maintain dog detection capacities by
improving and strengthening their dogs’ performance and dog handlers’ working methods.
The workshop will aim at sharing know-how and expertise among the participants during
plenary sessions based on a training programme focusing on questions and answers
regarding the currently applicable legislation for conducting cash controls, introduction to procedures applied by the hosting country, discussion on training methods and practical
issues linked with the search in cash. In addition, participants will take part in on-site
training and work with detection dogs in the real environment (international airport) under
trainers’ supervision. Participants will also share their own examples of best practices in
cash retrieval (including case studies, various interceptions, etc.).
Profile of participants
Participants’ profile
The workshop is targeted at customs officers working as dog trainers or dog handlers as
well as their detection dogs specializing in cash detection (or any other detection categories
in case a national administration does not run its own detection dog training programme
on searching cash and are interested in learning more about cash detection). The preference
is given especially to the presence of detection dogs since the workshop aims to be as much
practical as possible, yet even those officers without the possibility to participate in the
workshop with their detection dog are welcome to apply – their practical experience and
details on real seizures would be more than welcomed.
